Young people with Down Syndrome and Connection

A session exploring RSE (Relationships and Sexuality Education) and how it is fundamental to enable people with Down Syndrome to have successful and safer connections with those in their world.
This session is aimed at those supporting children and young people 9years+
This session will cover.
- What RSE needs to look like for children and young people with DS from around nine years to 16
- Families and Schools working together – the materials, the approaches, how we all feel about the work, our hopes and fears
- What to teach and when to teach it. How to support them in the moments when our kids make those inevitable social mistakes

Time: 10 am-1 pm inc a coffee break
Cost: Professionals £10. Parent/Carers £5. The cost is non-refundable.
Delivered by: Victoria Ralfs. Vik’s background is in secondary education, where she co-led a pioneering inclusion provision for six years.
For 9 years, Vik worked for the Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA), latterly leading the national Training and Conference Team, designing and delivering training and support to professionals and the families they support across the UK and abroad.
Project management for both Mencap and Symbol UK led Vik to Ups and Downs Southwest, where she led the Schools Service for two years. Vik was then Education Advisor to Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association and now leads the Special School Outreach service and Family Advice Service for Stepping Stones DS Group. She is a freelance consultant and specialises in RSE (Relationships and Sexuality Education)
