Toilet Training Session
Looking for guidance on toilet training?
This half-day session will look at the main causes of continence (bladder and bowel) problems in children with additional needs, how to approach toilet training and suggestions for addressing day and nighttime wetting. As well as how to manage constipation and when and how to secure help.
This session will be delivered by Davina Richardson RGN/RSCN, BSc (Hons). Davina is a children’s specialist nurse, working at Bladder and Bowel UK a national charity, under the umbrella of Disabled Living. She has experience nursing children in both the acute and community sectors and worked for some years with children who have complex health needs and disabilities.
Davina set up and ran a community children’s continence service in the NHS, which provided assessment and treatment for children with constipation and soiling, as well as day time wetting, nighttime wetting, delayed toilet training and provision of continence containment products to children who were unable to toilet train.
Davina is a member of several professional groups including the Paediatric Continence Forum, which lobbies nationally for improved services for children and young people, and is on the Executive Committee of the Association for Continence Advice. She has had articles on continence in children published and has spoken at local and national events for professionals and for families.
