Specialist Advisory Service
to schools and employs a fulltime Specialist Advisory Teacher.
The Service as a whole can provide a number of services to any educational setting in either mainstream or special provision, from pre-school right through to FE college:

Information and advice
for all teaching & support staff about relevant and useful resources
Access to our resource library.
•We have an extensive range of books and resources available for schools to borrow from our Resource Base. If you cannot make it to us here at Ups and Downs then we can bring them to you. Our Schools Advisor can answer questions and make recommendations. Click on the tab for a full list of the resources available.
•Books and resources are available for termly loan, providing opportunity for staff to fully utilise and experiment with, resources and information.
Whole staff training
sessions, offering the most up to date advice about the inclusion of pupils with DS. Full staff INSET, more informal smaller group training, daytime or twilight sessions at the school's convenience.
Specific Pupil Observation
visits and individual feedback with detailed reports and recomendations.
Support for transition
including information, advice and examples of best practice for the smooth transition of pupils with DS.
Up to date research
about best practice post-14, including information and support with selecting appropriate alternative accreditation and information about the range of cross-county off-site work experience/college placements.

working with pupils with DS across particular sectors, to meet, exchange information and ideas and access information and training from our specialist advisor.

to offer support and guidance around issues involved with individual pupils.
Providing up to date research and information to teaching & support staff in Special Provision
with a view to improving the currently negative data showing that children with DS achieve better outcomes both socially and academically in mainstream provision.
